GPPi to hold Roundtable Discussion on Improving Humanitarian Assistance

On 27 April 2009 the Global Public Policy Institute held a Roundtable Discussion entitled “Confronting Common Challenges: A Transatlantic Partnership for Improving Humanitarian Assistance?” Taking place in Brussels, the event was part of GPPi’s “Raising the Bar: Enhancing transatlantic governance of disaster relief and preparedness” project and is co-hosted by GPPi and the European Parliament.

The discussion was designed to bring together approximately 30 participants from key EU institutions, U.S. representatives, academia, and NGOs to discuss the potential for increased cooperation between the EU and the U.S. in humanitarian assistance. Part of the discussion focused on new policies on each side of the Atlantic, how these affect cooperation in the humanitarian aid sector and what impact they could have on beneficiary communities and implementing agencies.
